The Curator

Contact us

The Curator is read quietly and written to quietly. Most messages that arrive here are not complaints — they are half-formed ideas, questions about how a piece was researched, or requests to think something through with a person rather than a machine. All of them are welcome, and all of them are read.

There is one inbox and one reader. Nothing here is routed to an outsourced support tier or answered by an automated assistant pretending to be staff. If your note concerns something we published, it reaches the person who approved it before publication.

Where your message goes

  • Editorial and sourcing. Questions about how a claim was reached, requests for the underlying source, or a correction. Include the URL and the exact passage.
  • Account and subscription. Access problems, session history, billing changes, cancellations and refunds. Send the account email — never a password.
  • Press, features and previews. Interviews, essays, exclusive previews and speaking. Mention "Press" in your first line and we will reply within one working day.
  • Privacy and your data. Export or erasure requests, handled formally and confirmed in writing rather than resolved casually in conversation.

What happens after you press send

Messages are stored against this publication so replies carry the right context, and they are triaged the same working day. Access and billing questions are usually settled in a single exchange. Editorial questions take longer by design: we return to the original material before we answer, because the alternative is defending a sentence rather than examining it.

When a correction is justified we amend the piece, record the change at the foot of the page and write back to say what moved. When we disagree, we still write back and set out the reasoning, so you can weigh it rather than take it on trust.

Writing a note that gets a precise answer

Specificity is kindness here. A URL and the sentence you are questioning will get you a considered reply; a general impression will get you a general one. If you are writing about a session with The Curator, the approximate time helps us locate it, and the part of the exchange that went wrong helps more than a description of the whole.

  • One subject per message keeps the answer sharp.
  • Say what you expected and what happened instead.
  • Attach screenshots rather than describing them.
  • If there is a deadline, put it in the opening line.

What we will never ask you for

We will never request your password, a two-factor code, remote access to your device, or card details by email or through this form. We will never open a conversation asking you to continue it on another platform. If something claiming to be from The Curator does, forward it here before you act on it.

Reaching a person, and what to expect back

Choose the right route

Factual problems in an essay — a wrong attribution, a misquoted line, a date that has drifted — belong in the correction route, which attaches your message to the passage in question. General enquiries, press questions and partnership approaches go through the contact form.

Billing questions need the account email and, for a disputed charge, the transaction reference; without them the first reply is only a request for them.

What happens next

Messages are read by the publisher rather than an autoresponder. Corrections that hold up are applied and acknowledged; those that do not are answered with the reasoning, because someone who took the trouble to write deserves an argument rather than silence.

We do not add correspondents to a mailing list, and support conversations are never mined for article material unless you offer them.

Pitches and suggestions

No sponsored posts, no paid links, no guest pieces placed to carry one. Suggestions for essay subjects are read, though the queue is long and most are answered with silence rather than a commission.

The suggestions that succeed name a question rather than a title — a tension, a convention worth examining, a work whose reputation and behaviour disagree.

Your data

The form collects only what is needed to reply. Messages are retained while the matter is open and briefly afterwards, then deleted on the schedule in the privacy policy.

Access, export and erasure requests are handled from the data-request tab in your account and processed within the statutory window.
